The Process of Creating a Website
The first thing, and most important thing, I did when developing my website happened before I began the process of actually creating the site: I made a plan and thought about what I wanted the website to contain and the audience I wanted to target with the site. Since I am an English teacher and eventually, would like to use my website as a tool in the classroom, I know I needed to design the site to be user-friendly but informative.
Next, I wanted the site to address the subject of writing and all the components of preparing to write an essay successfully and easily, therefore, all the components of process had to be included. Thinking about each step of the writing process from beginning to end, gathering all the materials needed for each process, and laying out the design of the page was the second step that I had to take in creating this website. I knew I didn’t want to use too many images on the page to distract from the information so I chose to put one image per page on the site. Furthermore, I didn’t want to put too much information on the page because then it would be overkill and the student wouldn’t read it. Finding a balance is an important aspect when teaching and producing my website.
Third, I needed to organize my site in chronological order so I arranged the pages to start at the beginning of the process with the brainstorming phase and ending it with the page on revision and editing. I did this to make finding the information and strategies of writing manageable and easy to find for the student. I want the student/writer or whoever accesses the site to feel comfortable using it because it is straightforward with the techniques, graphic organizers, and print materials.
Finally, putting all the materials in the correct locations on the pages was the final step in my design. Once everything and every page was made and ordered, then I went back and placed the materials in their appropriate locations. I also created a separate page for each category of materials as part of the assignment and as an additional tool for people using the site.
