            Revising, not Rewriting the Essay

            Picture
Revising is just what it says:  reworking the essay to make it better.  It does not have to be a headache, a chore, or a laborous endeavor.  It is a thoughtful process meant to help improve the essay - not to make you throw up your hands and throw the paper away!  Writing is a process - both mental and physical.  Composition has to involve thinking about what is being put on the page and what has been put on the page once it is done.   Below are two checklist that will help you with the process of self-revision.  Follow the checklist closely, step-by-step, because every detail is very important to creating a quality essay (and yes, reading your essay out loud to yourself does help!).  Revising the writing will help you to understand what you are writing as well as how well you are writing.
